ATLANTA, GA — A suspect wanted in the deadly shooting of a man at a Buckhead apartment complex parking deck has been arrested after an hourslong SWAT operation in Johns Creek, according to Atlanta police.
Investigators say the arrest is tied to a case that began in the early morning hours of Sept. 4 at the Mezzo apartments on Peachtree Road NE, where officers found a man with a gunshot wound. Grady EMS tried to save him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Police also said another man, described as an associate of the victim, was injured and later treated at a hospital.
Atlanta police identified 26-year-old Xavier Bryant as a suspect after detectives continued working the homicide case, and they obtained warrants for his arrest. The department did not say publicly what specific evidence led to the warrants, but officers moved to take him into custody on Friday morning.
The attempted arrest involved both the Atlanta Police Department and Johns Creek police, who were carrying out a search warrant connected to the investigation on the 9100 block of Ferry Road. Police said the encounter turned into a SWAT situation that lasted for hours before Bryant was taken into custody.
Authorities say Bryant is now facing multiple felony counts, including murder, armed robbery, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. The charges reflect both the fatal shooting and the broader circumstances that investigators say surrounded the attack.
Police have not said whether Bryant has entered a plea or named an attorney to speak for him. No additional details about the standoff were released beyond the fact that it ended with Bryant’s arrest after the warrant operation in Johns Creek.
Atlanta police also said three other men were taken into custody on the morning of the shooting after a chase in Cobb County. Those men were identified as Brian Wingo, Charles Lewis and Ky-Mani Goodings.
All three are facing murder and armed robbery charges, according to police. Investigators have not publicly laid out each person’s alleged role in the case, and it is not clear from the available information how the chase in Cobb County unfolded or how it connected to the shooting scene at the Buckhead apartment complex.
The shooting happened in the parking deck at the Mezzo apartments on the 2000 block of Peachtree Road NE, a busy Buckhead corridor lined with residential and commercial buildings. Officers responding before dawn found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound and began an immediate emergency response.
Grady EMS was called to the scene, but the victim could not be saved. Police said the other injured man’s wounds were not considered life-threatening. Investigators have not released the victim’s name, and they have not publicly said what led up to the shooting inside or around the deck.
The Johns Creek operation marked a later phase in a case that had already stretched across multiple agencies and jurisdictions. Atlanta police led the homicide investigation, while Johns Creek officers helped with the search warrant that ultimately led to Bryant’s arrest.
For now, police are withholding the victim’s identity and have given no public timeline for whether more charges or arrests could follow. The case links a fatal Buckhead shooting, an earlier arrest after a Cobb County chase and a separate SWAT response in Johns Creek, all tied together by the same homicide investigation.
