Police tape near a New Orleans East storage facility where investigators say a woman was shot and killed

New Orleans Woman Accused of Killing Ex-Husband’s Girlfriend Near Storage Unit After Police Say She Fled to Mississippi and Later Confessed

NEW ORLEANS, LA — A New Orleans woman is accused of fatally shooting her ex-husband’s girlfriend outside a New Orleans East storage facility last month, then leaving Louisiana and heading into Mississippi, according to court records. Police say Shelia Renee Scott, 45, targeted Jacquelyn Green, 43, because she wanted to interfere in her ex-husband’s new relationship.

Scott was ordered held on $1 million bond Thursday in Orleans Parish Criminal District Court on a charge of second-degree murder. If convicted, she faces a life sentence at hard labor. Court filings say the shooting happened near 10300 North I-10 Service Road on Oct. 14 and was captured in part by a witness and surveillance footage.

Court filings describe a shooting that began with a chase

According to the arrest affidavit, Scott arrived at the scene in a white Mercedes shortly after noon. Investigators say she then chased Green and fired at her near the storage unit property. The affidavit says Scott kept shooting even after Green fell to the ground.

Police said three spent shell casings were recovered from the scene. The affidavit also says the shooter stood over Green and fired again after she was already down. Those allegations remain part of the criminal case as Scott awaits trial.

Police say the suspect left in one car and switched vehicles at home

After the shooting, Scott allegedly fled in the Mercedes, then went back home and switched to a Jeep before leaving again with a bag, according to court records. Investigators say that movement helped them trace her path after the killing and build a timeline of her escape.

The case quickly widened beyond Orleans Parish as detectives tried to locate her. Court documents indicate investigators believed she had crossed state lines soon after the shooting, prompting coordination with other agencies while the search was still active.

Detectives tracked her to Hattiesburg with help from federal and state agencies

New Orleans police found Scott within five hours of the killing after setting up surveillance in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, records show. The operation involved the FBI, Louisiana State Police and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, underscoring how quickly the investigation moved once she was identified as a suspect.

Lt. Andrew Waldron, who leads the NOPD homicide unit, said at an Oct. 15 briefing that detectives obtained a full confession. He also said investigators believed they had recovered the murder weapon. The arrest came the day after the shooting, before the case had time to fade from immediate view.

Bond, extradition and the charge now facing Scott

Scott was extradited and booked Wednesday into the Orleans Justice Center, according to jail records. Her bond was set at $1 million in Orleans Parish Criminal District Court on Thursday while she remains in custody awaiting trial.

The charge against her is second-degree murder, one of the most serious homicide counts under Louisiana law. A conviction would expose her to a mandatory life sentence at hard labor, making the outcome of the case especially high-stakes for both sides.

A case built on surveillance, witness accounts and a fast manhunt

The evidence described in court records includes a witness account, surveillance footage, shell casings and the alleged confession. Together, those pieces helped investigators say they could connect Scott to the scene, the getaway and the recovery of a possible murder weapon.

The speed of the arrest also stands out. Police say the combination of local detectives and outside agencies allowed them to locate Scott in Mississippi within hours, turning what began as a domestic-related homicide into a multistate manhunt that ended almost immediately.
