Police investigate a crash scene near an abandoned building in Shreveport after a double homicide

Shreveport Police Arrest Second Suspect in Sunset Acres Crash Double Homicide Investigation After September Shooting That Killed Two Men

SHREVEPORT, LA — Shreveport police have arrested a second man in the September double homicide tied to a crash in Sunset Acres, adding another suspect to an investigation that began after two men were found dead following a shooting and wreck at an abandoned bowling alley.

Jacoreyus Gray, 24, was booked Wednesday afternoon on suspicion of two counts of homicide. Jail records also list charges of possession with intent to distribute controlled dangerous substances and possession of a firearm with controlled dangerous substances.

Police say the case centers on a violent encounter near Sunnybrook Street and Hearne Avenue that ended with a BMW crashing into the vacant building. Investigators are still piecing together the chain of events that led to the deaths of LaJames Smith and David Young.

How police say the September attack unfolded

According to information released by Shreveport police, the two victims were traveling in a BMW when they crashed into an abandoned bowling alley in the area of Sunnybrook Street and Hearne Avenue. The crash drew investigators to a scene that quickly became a homicide case.

SPD says surveillance video showed a person in a second vehicle approaching the BMW and firing several shots into it. Police have not publicly described the suspected shooter’s motive or whether the gunfire caused the crash, but the video is part of the evidence guiding the investigation.

The location sits in the Sunset Acres area, where the wreck and shooting brought together crash reconstruction and homicide work. The case remains under active investigation by Shreveport police detectives.

Victims identified by the Caddo Coroner's Office

The Caddo Coroner’s Office identified the men killed in the incident as LaJames Smith, 31, and David Young, 26. Their deaths were part of a September case that has now led to at least two arrests.

Authorities have not said in detail how the two men were connected to the people being investigated, beyond the information tying them to the BMW that crashed after the shooting. Police have also not publicly outlined any additional suspects beyond the two arrests already announced.

The identification by the coroner’s office gave the case a formal victim count and provided the names of the men whose deaths are at the center of the ongoing homicide probe.

Gray becomes the second person booked in the case

Gray’s arrest comes a little more than two weeks after another suspect was taken into custody. Lesabian Raymone Thomas, 26, was arrested in connection with the incident on Oct. 8, according to police.

With Gray now booked, investigators have linked two men to the September deaths, though officials have not said whether either man has been charged with firing the shots captured on surveillance video. Police have also not released details about how the arrests were made or whether additional evidence played a role.

The sequence of arrests suggests the investigation is continuing to develop as detectives compare video, witness statements and physical evidence from the crash site. For now, authorities have limited their public comments to the charges and the basic facts of the case.

Homicide counts paired with drug and firearm allegations

In addition to the homicide allegations, Gray is facing accusations tied to narcotics and weapons possession. Those charges indicate police believe controlled dangerous substances and a firearm were involved in the case, though authorities have not described the amount of drugs or the specific weapon recovered.

The combination of charges is significant because it suggests investigators are looking at both the violence itself and the circumstances surrounding it. Still, Shreveport police have not said whether the drug and firearm allegations are connected to the BMW, the abandoned bowling alley scene or another part of the investigation.

As with the earlier arrest, officials have released only limited details about Gray’s role. The booking marks a notable step in the case, but police have not said whether more arrests are expected.

What remains unanswered as detectives continue the probe

Several key questions remain open. Police have not said what led to the shooting, whether the crash was deliberate or the result of the gunfire, or how the suspects and victims knew one another.

Investigators also have not released a full timeline of the events before the BMW hit the abandoned bowling alley. That means the public account still rests on the surveillance footage, the coroner’s identifications and the arrests announced so far.

For now, the case stands as a major violent-crime investigation in Shreveport with two men dead, two arrests made and more questions than answers about what happened on Sunnybrook Street and Hearne Avenue in September.
