Police investigate a fatal shooting scene in Powder Springs, Georgia

Teen Charged as Adult in Cobb County Murder After Powder Springs Shooting Leaves 18-Year-Old Man Dead Friday Night

POWDER SPRINGS, GA — A 15-year-old boy is facing murder charges after a Friday night shooting in Powder Springs left 18-year-old British Hart dead, according to Cobb County Police.

Police said Powder Springs officers were called to a person shot in the 3400 block of Mustang Drive around 9:45 p.m. When responders reached the scene, they found Hart with a gunshot wound. First responders tried lifesaving measures, but he died from his injuries.

Authorities said the teen suspect was identified with help from Cobb County Police’s Major Crimes Unit. He has been charged as an adult with murder and aggravated assault.

Police say the shooting happened on Mustang Drive late Friday

The shooting took place in a residential area of Powder Springs, a city in Cobb County west of Atlanta. Police have not said what led up to the gunfire, and they have not released a possible motive.

Officers were dispatched after a report of someone being shot in the 3400 block of Mustang Drive. That call set off a response from local police and emergency personnel, who arrived to find Hart critically wounded.

Cobb County Police said the case remains under investigation. Details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including whether anyone else was involved, have not been made public.

British Hart died after emergency crews tried to save him

Hart, 18, was pronounced dead after attempts were made to preserve his life at the scene. Police identified him by name in announcing the charges connected to the case.

The death has turned the case into a homicide investigation. While authorities have not released additional information about Hart’s background, his age places him among the youngest adults in the case.

Police did not provide information about any relationship between Hart and the suspect. They also did not say whether the shooting happened inside a home, outside, or in another specific location on the block.

Detectives with the Major Crimes Unit identified the suspect

After the initial response, Powder Springs Police asked Cobb County Police’s Major Crimes Unit to help with the investigation. Detectives later identified a 15-year-old boy as the person they believe was responsible.

Because the suspect is a minor, authorities did not release his name. He was charged as an adult with murder and aggravated assault, a step that places the case in the adult criminal system despite his age.

Police said the teen was taken into custody after being identified as the suspect. No additional arrests have been announced in connection with the shooting.

The teen is being held without bond at the Cobb County Youth Detention Center

Police said the boy is being held without bond at the Cobb County Youth Detention Center. That detail shows the case is moving through the system while investigators continue gathering evidence.

Authorities did not say when the suspect is expected to appear in court or whether prosecutors have filed any further charges. The detention center placement also suggests officials are handling the case as a juvenile arrest while the charges themselves are filed in adult court.

For now, officials have kept the case file limited to the basic facts: a fatal shooting, a dead 18-year-old man, and a 15-year-old suspect charged with murder.

Questions remain about motive and what happened before the shots were fired

One of the biggest unanswered questions is why the shooting happened. Cobb County Police said they have not released a motive, leaving the reason for the violence unclear.

Investigators also have not described what happened immediately before the gunfire or whether any dispute, confrontation, or other incident led to the shooting. Those details may emerge later if detectives or prosecutors release more information.

For Powder Springs residents, the case adds another violent episode to a local crime investigation that is still unfolding. The only confirmed facts so far are the time, the location, the victim, and the arrest of a juvenile suspect.
