SHREVEPORT, LA — A Shreveport man is facing multiple charges after police say he assaulted several relatives during a Wednesday disturbance at a home. Investigators allege Tory Jackson attacked his disabled uncle, his mother and a 4-year-old family member before officers arrested him.
Shreveport police say the case began when officers were called to investigate the incident on Wednesday. According to investigators, the violence escalated quickly inside the home, leaving one relative hospitalized and prompting police to recover a firearm at the scene.
Jackson is now accused of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, cruelty to the infirm, simple assault and simple battery.
Investigators say Jackson’s disabled uncle was the first person to be attacked. Police allege Jackson slammed the man to the floor, beat him and stomped on his head during the confrontation.
The uncle was later taken to a hospital for treatment, according to Shreveport police. Officials did not release further details about the man’s condition or what may have led to the initial confrontation inside the home.
The allegation of cruelty to the infirm stems from the victim’s disability, making that charge one of the most serious in the case.
Police say Jackson’s mother stepped in when the attack on her disabled relative was happening, but investigators allege she was struck as well. Officers say he slapped her when she tried to intervene.
According to police, Jackson also threatened to kill everyone in the home during the disturbance. That threat widened the seriousness of the incident, which investigators say involved multiple family members and a young child.
The mother’s intervention appears to have occurred during the same fast-moving confrontation, as officers described the scene as involving several separate acts of violence in one home.
Shreveport police say the violence did not stop with the adults in the home. Investigators learned that Jackson allegedly picked up a 4-year-old family member and slammed the child.
Police did not say whether the child needed medical treatment or describe any injuries. Even so, the allegation adds another layer to the case because the child is among the youngest alleged victims in the incident.
The reports from investigators indicate that family members of different ages were caught up in the same episode, with the child’s involvement making the accusations especially alarming.
Police say Jackson resisted officers before being taken into custody. After the arrest, investigators say they recovered a firearm connected to the case.
Authorities did not say exactly where the weapon was found or whether it was used during the alleged assault. The firearm charge, however, reflects police saying Jackson is a convicted felon and was not allowed to possess a gun.
The combination of alleged violence, a threat against family members and the recovered firearm helped shape the set of charges filed in the case.
Jackson is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, cruelty to the infirm, simple assault and simple battery. Those charges reflect both the alleged violence against the uncle and mother and the broader confrontation police say unfolded in the home.
Authorities have not released information about a court appearance or whether additional charges are possible. For now, police say the investigation centers on the Wednesday incident and the injuries reported by family members.
Shreveport police have identified the suspect and outlined the accusations, but many details about the circumstances leading up to the disturbance remain undisclosed.
