SAVANNAH, GA — A GoFundMe campaign is helping a Savannah family pay for funeral expenses and support three children after youth coach Savon Holman was fatally shot. Holman, 34, was found Sunday in the 800 block of West 53rd Street, near Bulloch and Clinch streets.
Savannah police are investigating the killing and have released few details about what happened. The fundraiser says the goal is to raise money for Holman’s homegoing service and to provide additional support for his family as they cope with his death.
The campaign is asking for $14,000 to help with funeral arrangements and to provide longer-term help for Holman’s family. By Friday morning, donations had reached $1,960, according to the fundraiser page.
The page describes the loss as devastating for Holman’s children, relatives, friends and others who knew him. It says his death has left an “unimaginable void” in the lives of the people closest to him.
Holman leaves behind three children, and the fundraiser is meant in part to ease the financial burden on them and the rest of his family. The effort has become a way for friends and supporters to respond quickly while police continue their investigation.
To many families and athletes, Holman was known as Coach Savon. He served as president of 912 United, a youth sports organization where he coached and mentored young people.
The fundraiser describes him as more than a father, son, brother and friend, calling him a beloved coach. That reputation, combined with his work in youth sports, made him a familiar figure to many in the community.
His family said his impact will continue through his children, the athletes he coached and the people who knew him. For those who worked with him, Holman’s role went beyond practices and games and extended into mentorship.
Holman graduated from Beach High School in 2010 and later earned a degree from Savannah State University in 2017. Those milestones added to his long connection to Savannah, where he lived, coached and built relationships across the community.
His background and involvement in youth sports helped establish the public image his family and supporters are now remembering. In the statements tied to the fundraiser, those closest to him describe a legacy shaped by family, service and the young athletes he guided.
The loss has drawn attention from people who knew him through school, sports and everyday community life. For many of them, the fundraiser is also a record of the role he played in local youth athletics.
Police said Holman was found in the 800 block of West 53rd Street, near Bulloch and Clinch streets, on Sunday. Officials have not publicly described a suspect, motive or possible timeline in the case.
The Savannah Police Department is handling the investigation and has not shared additional details. With the case still developing, investigators have asked anyone with information to come forward.
At this stage, authorities have not said whether any arrests have been made. The lack of released information leaves many basic questions unanswered as the investigation continues.
Anyone who may know something about the shooting is being urged to contact CrimeStoppers at 912-234-2020. Tips can also be submitted through the CrimeStoppers mobile app.
The request for public help is part of the effort to move the case forward while Holman’s family focuses on funeral plans and caring for his children. For supporters, the fundraiser and tip line represent two separate ways to respond to the tragedy.
As the family mourns, the community response has centered on remembrance, financial assistance and information-sharing. The fundraiser and CrimeStoppers appeal together show how residents are trying to help in the days after Holman’s death.
