Louisiana State Police seek help finding missing 13-year-old Isaac Canter in New Iberia

Louisiana State Police Issue Endangered Missing Child Advisory for New Iberia Boy Last Seen Leaving Home With Possible Backpack and Dog

NEW IBERIA, LA — Louisiana State Police issued a Level II Endangered/Missing Child Advisory Friday evening for a 13-year-old boy from Iberia Parish after he was reported missing from his home in New Iberia. Investigators are asking the public to help locate Isaac Canter, who was last seen leaving his home on Chastant Road.

Authorities say Canter may be traveling on foot and could be carrying a green backpack. They have not identified where he may be headed, and his direction of travel remains unknown. Officials said he was last seen during the evening on Friday.

What investigators say about Isaac Canter's appearance

State police described Canter as a white male with brown hair and hazel eyes. He is 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weighs about 135 pounds, according to the advisory.

When he was last seen, Canter was wearing a black-and-white skeleton sweater, khaki pants and black-and-white shoes. Authorities also said he may be with a tan dog wearing a pink collar, a detail they included as part of the public search.

Why the advisory was issued as a Level II alert

A Level II Endangered/Missing Child Advisory is used in Louisiana when a child is missing and investigators believe there may be circumstances that make the situation especially urgent. The designation is meant to quickly spread identifying details so members of the public can assist with the search.

In this case, state police released the advisory shortly after Canter was last seen leaving his residence. The alert asks anyone who sees him or has information about his location to treat the case seriously and contact law enforcement right away.

Search efforts focus on Iberia Parish and nearby areas

Officials have not said how long Canter had been missing before the advisory was issued, but the search is centered on New Iberia and surrounding parts of Iberia Parish. Because investigators believe he is on foot, the search may extend beyond the immediate neighborhood where he disappeared.

Police have not announced any further details about possible destinations, witnesses or other leads. For now, the public description is the main tool authorities are using to locate him quickly and safely.

How to report information about the missing boy

Anyone with information about Canter’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office at 337-369-3711. People who believe they may have seen him should also call 911, especially if they are able to provide a recent location, direction of travel or vehicle information connected to the search.

Authorities are urging residents to check yards, roadways and nearby areas in case Canter or the tan dog were seen on foot. Even small details could help investigators narrow down where he may have gone after leaving home.

Public details released so far remain limited

The advisory gives a basic physical description, clothing details and the possibility that Canter is with a dog, but officials have not released additional circumstances surrounding his disappearance. Louisiana State Police have not said whether anyone else was with him when he was last seen.

For now, the public appeal remains focused on finding the teen as quickly as possible. Anyone who recognizes the description or has recent information is being urged to come forward immediately.
