New Orleans Police Investigate Deadly Hit and Run on Elysian Fields Avenue After Victim Was Struck Following a Property Dispute Overnight

NEW ORLEANS, LA — New Orleans police are investigating a deadly hit-and-run crash in the 3100 block of Elysian Fields Avenue that left one person dead early Thursday morning.

Officers were called to the area around 2:15 a.m., according to the New Orleans Police Department. Investigators say the victim died at the scene after being struck by a vehicle.

Police have identified the suspect vehicle as a blue sedan with a spare tire on the front passenger side. Detectives are asking for help from anyone who saw the crash or may know who was driving.

Police say the crash followed a dispute over property

Investigators say the incident began after the victim reportedly purchased several items. Police say an unknown woman allegedly took those items, which led to a confrontation.

According to authorities, the victim approached the woman and demanded the property back while she was inside her vehicle. Police say the suspect then allegedly hit the victim with the car.

The details released so far describe a fast-moving confrontation that ended in a fatal collision. Police have not said whether the people involved knew each other or how the dispute started.

Victim died at the scene as detectives secured the area

Emergency crews responded to the block shortly after the reported crash, but police said the victim did not survive. No additional information about the victim has been released publicly.

The death was investigated as a hit-and-run, meaning the driver left the scene after the collision. Detectives have not said whether they have identified the woman believed to have been behind the wheel.

Because the case remains active, police have released only limited details about the circumstances surrounding the deadly encounter.

Blue sedan with spare tire is the key lead

One of the main pieces of evidence investigators have shared is the description of the suspect vehicle. Police say it was a blue sedan with a spare tire mounted on the front passenger side.

That detail may help witnesses or nearby drivers remember the car in the area around the time of the crash. Officers are likely to use surveillance video, witness accounts and vehicle tips as they continue the investigation.

Police have not released a plate number or said whether the car has been recovered.

Crimestoppers is asking witnesses to come forward

Anyone with information is being asked to contact Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111. Tips from people who saw the vehicle, the confrontation or the aftermath could help detectives narrow the search.

Police did not say whether there were any other injuries or whether anyone else was present when the victim was struck. The investigation remains open as officers work to identify the driver and piece together the sequence of events.

For now, the crash remains one of the city’s latest fatal roadway investigations, and police are looking for public help to move it forward.

What investigators have and have not said so far

Authorities have confirmed the location, the approximate time and the fact that the victim died at the scene. They have also said the crash involved an alleged property dispute before the fatal strike.

What police have not yet released is the identity of the victim, the identity of the woman accused of taking the items, or any possible motive beyond the confrontation over property. No arrest has been announced.

As the case develops, investigators are focused on finding the blue sedan and gathering witness information that could lead them to the driver.
