Juvenile Dies in Two Vehicle Crash on Macland Road in Marietta After Pickup Strikes Car Turning Left at Busy Cobb County Intersection

MARIETTA, GA — A juvenile died Wednesday night after a two-vehicle crash at a Marietta intersection, according to the Cobb County Police Department. Investigators said the child was a passenger in a red 2016 Kia Forte that was struck while turning left from Macland Road onto Ernest Barrett Parkway.

Police said the collision happened at 7:29 p.m. The impact pushed the Kia into the northbound lanes of Ernest Barrett Parkway and Macland Road, while the other vehicle, a blue 2019 Chevrolet Silverado, rolled onto its roof and stopped partly in the right eastbound lane of Macland Road and partly on the shoulder.

Police say Kia was turning left when Silverado struck the passenger side

According to investigators, the Kia was traveling west on Macland Road before the driver attempted the left turn onto Ernest Barrett Parkway. At the same time, the Silverado was heading east on Macland Road and hit the Kia on its passenger side.

The sequence of events sent both vehicles out of their original travel paths and left the Silverado overturned at the scene. Police have not said what led to the collision beyond the initial movements of the vehicles.

The crash occurred at one of Cobb County’s busier roadway intersections, where Macland Road and Ernest Barrett Parkway meet. The department has not released any additional information about traffic conditions, visibility, or whether any witnesses were present.

Child pronounced dead at the scene as next of kin are notified

The Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office pronounced the juvenile passenger dead at the scene, officials said. Authorities have notified the child’s next of kin.

Police have not released the child’s age or identity. That information remains unavailable as investigators continue to document the crash and review what happened before the impact.

The driver of the Kia was not injured, according to police. The condition of the juvenile passenger was the focus of the medical response at the scene, where emergency crews and investigators worked after the collision.

Silverado driver taken to hospital with non life threatening injuries

An ambulance took the Silverado driver to a local hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. Police did not provide a more detailed medical update on that driver.

The truck’s rollover added to the severity of the crash scene, but investigators have not said whether either vehicle suffered mechanical problems. They also have not said whether seat belts or air bags played a role in the outcome.

Officials identified the vehicles involved as a red Kia Forte and a blue Chevrolet Silverado. Those details are part of the preliminary account released by the Cobb County Police Department’s Special Operations S.T.E.P. Unit.

Investigators have not said whether speed or impairment played a role

Police said they have not determined whether speed or impairment were factors in the crash. Officers also have not said whether charges will be filed.

The case remains under investigation, and the department’s preliminary report leaves several questions open. Those include exactly how fast the vehicles were moving and whether either driver made any unsafe maneuver before the collision.

For now, the department’s account focuses on the crash sequence and the immediate aftermath. More information would likely come from the ongoing investigation if authorities choose to release it.

Preliminary report outlines the crash scene and immediate aftermath

The information released so far came from the Cobb County Police Department Special Operations S.T.E.P. Unit, which summarized the incident in a preliminary investigation report. That report placed the crash at the intersection of Macland Road and Ernest Barrett Parkway just after 7:29 p.m.

Investigators said the Kia ended up spinning into the northbound lanes, while the Silverado came to rest upside down along the eastbound side of Macland Road. The report also noted the child’s death at the scene and the transport of the Silverado driver to a hospital.

The fatal crash adds to the day’s traffic toll in Cobb County, where police often release early findings before a fuller review is complete. In this case, the department has shared the basic crash mechanics but not a final determination about fault.
