Police investigate a hit-and-run crash scene in Shreveport after a child was struck

Shreveport Child Dies After Hit and Run on Hearne Avenue as Police Say Driver Was Arrested and Booked After the October Crash

SHREVEPORT, LA — A 10-year-old Shreveport girl injured in a hit-and-run earlier this month has died, the Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office said. Kristian Mosley died at 4:14 p.m. Saturday at Ochsner LSU Health, where she had been treated since the Oct. 12 crash.

Kristian, her 28-year-old mother and her 5-year-old brother were struck just after 6:30 a.m. at Hearne Avenue and Morningside Drive. Family members had been seeking help for medical and related expenses while the child remained hospitalized with severe injuries.

Family says Kristian needed brain and leg surgery after the crash

Before Kristian’s death, her mother, Mishay Mosley, launched a GoFundMe campaign to ask for financial help. In the fundraiser, she said her daughter had undergone brain surgery and surgery on both legs after the collision.

Mishay Mosley described the situation as one of the hardest moments of her life. She said she was trying to make decisions for her children and keep the family together while dealing with Kristian’s condition.

In a post on the fundraising page, she said she was facing the difficult possibility of withdrawing life-sustaining treatment. The fundraiser had collected $2,393 by Monday toward a $12,000 goal.

Witness says black vehicle struck the three and fled the scene

Police said a witness reported that a black vehicle hit the mother and her two children and then drove away. The crash happened at a busy intersection in the early morning hours, before many residents would have been on the road.

Officers later located the vehicle, a 2023 Toyota Corolla, on Waggoner Avenue. Authorities said the car was found after the collision, providing the first major lead in the investigation into the getaway driver.

The case was treated as a hit-and-run from the start, with police working to identify who was behind the wheel and how the vehicle was connected to the crash.

Marcus C. Lacour was arrested nearby after officers identified him as the driver

Police identified the driver as Marcus C. Lacour, 49. He was arrested nearby and taken into custody without incident, according to authorities.

Investigators also said Lacour’s driver’s license was suspended and the vehicle was uninsured. Those details added to the charges already tied to the crash.

Lacour was booked into the city jail on one felony count and two misdemeanor counts of hit-and-run driving. Cpl. Chris Bordelon said the case involved the required elements for felony hit-and-run because the crash caused serious bodily injury.

What the death could mean for the charges in the case

With Kristian’s death now confirmed, investigators said the existing felony charge may not need to be upgraded. Bordelon said felony hit-and-run already covers cases involving serious bodily injury or death.

That means the criminal case can move forward under the same general charge structure even after the child’s condition changed. Officials have not said what additional steps, if any, prosecutors may take as the case develops.

The arrest and booking marked the immediate law-enforcement response, but the fatal outcome has made the collision far more serious for the family and the community.

Community attention grows around a family now facing medical and funeral costs

The Mosley family’s fundraiser had already become a focus as relatives tried to cover expenses tied to the crash. The page reflected both the medical emergency and the uncertainty the family faced while Kristian remained in the hospital.

Now that she has died, those costs may include funeral arrangements as well as the earlier treatment bills. The family had not reached its fundraising goal by Monday, and the amount collected remained well below the total requested.

For a mother who publicly shared her fear and grief while asking for help, the outcome has turned a painful crash into a tragedy with lasting financial and emotional consequences.

Hit and run case adds to concerns about roadway safety in the city

The crash on Hearne Avenue highlights the danger created when a driver leaves after striking pedestrians. In this case, a child and two family members were all hit in one incident, and the victim later died from her injuries.

Authorities have not said why the vehicle left the scene, and the circumstances of the crash remain part of the investigation. What is clear is that the collision left a family grieving and a criminal case now centered on a fatal hit-and-run.

The coroner’s findings, the arrest, and the family’s fundraiser together show how quickly a morning crash can become a long-running personal and legal ordeal.
