EATONTON, GA — A 31-year-old Eatonton man died after a single-vehicle ATV crash on Flat Rock Road Saturday afternoon, according to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said the crash happened around 3:59 p.m. in the 100 block of the road. The rider was identified as Kenneth Reid Meyer.
Authorities said Meyer was driving a Honda four-wheeler when it left the roadway and struck a utility pole next to the road. He was thrown from the ATV during the crash.
The sheriff’s office said evidence at the scene showed the ATV moved off the roadway before hitting the pole. The crash involved only one vehicle.
The utility pole was beside the road, and the impact came after the ATV departed the travel lane. Deputies have not released additional details about what may have caused the rider to lose control.
No other people were reported hurt in the incident. The sheriff’s office described it as a single-vehicle crash in the 100 block of Flat Rock Road.
Investigators said the ATV was a Honda four-wheeler type vehicle. When it struck the utility pole, Meyer was ejected from the machine.
ATV crashes can become serious quickly when a rider is thrown from the vehicle, and this case ended with fatal injuries later that day. The sheriff’s office did not say whether a helmet or other safety gear was involved.
Officials also did not provide information about road conditions, speed, or any mechanical problems with the ATV.
After the crash, Meyer was flown by helicopter to Atrium Navicent Medical Center for treatment. The sheriff’s office said he died later that afternoon.
His death turned the crash from a rescue call into a fatal incident under investigation by local authorities. The medical center was the destination for emergency transport, but no further medical details were released.
Putnam County officials have not announced any additional findings about the crash or whether further review is expected.
The scene was in the 100 block of Flat Rock Road, a roadway where vehicles can run close to roadside obstacles such as utility poles. In this case, the ATV’s path off the roadway led directly to the collision.
While deputies have not given a broader explanation, the case shows how quickly a routine ride can turn deadly when a rider is ejected. The sheriff’s office has not said whether weather, terrain, or other conditions played a role.
For now, investigators have confirmed the crash location, the time, the vehicle involved, and Meyer’s death later that day.
The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim, the time of the crash, and the hospital where he was taken. It has also said the crash involved a single ATV and a utility pole beside Flat Rock Road.
Officials have not released any indication that another vehicle was involved. They also have not said whether citations, charges, or additional investigative steps are pending.
As of the latest information, the fatal crash remains a local incident under sheriff’s office review, with limited details released beyond the basic facts of what happened and where.
