Rehearsals occur most days of the week in the school’s auditorium. During rehearsals, the cast works on memorizing lines, making the set and props, blocking scenes, and more All of these things mentioned take a while to do, but in the end, the show comes together amazingly. Being in rehearsals helps build bonds and helps each cast member understand each other more so that when it is time to perform, they all know how to work together well.
My favorite part about getting to be in productions like this is that it lets me explore my creativity, and it’s just so fun to be able to hang out with your friends and just be yourself,¨ says Lainey Kate Tolbert, a 7th grader at BGJHS who also plays Little Red Riding Hood in the show.
Some of the cast has already worked together in previous shows, so they already have a good bond, but this is the first time some of the kids have worked together or even with Mr. Quinn!
The cast of Robin Hood gets to make all their characters their own. Some of the characters have maybe never been played live or on stage before, so it’s a challenge for the whole cast.“One of the hard things about this show is that it is an original production, and we don’t have anyone to look up to for inspiration”, says Adam Wallace, who’s a 7th grader and plays Robin Hood in the show
Mr. Quinn wrote this entire production by himself, so it has especially been a challenge for him! He is an amazing director because he gives good information to the cast members to make their roles more understandable and fun. Mr. Quinn wrote this entire production by himself, so it has especially been a challenge for him! He is an amazing director because he gives good information to the cast members to make their roles more understandable and fun. It sometimes takes more time for certain people to get into their roles than others, but that’s ok; that’s life. Some of the actors have been acting for 7-8 years, but others have been acting for a lot less than that. For example, Lainey Kate Tolbert has been acting for 1-2 years, and she has already accomplished a lot in a short time frame!
As mentioned earlier, Mr. Quinn wrote this production all from scratch and by himself. That’s super impressive! Mr. Quinn has been directing the musicals and the plays for about three years now, so he has experience and knows what he’s doing. Last year, the theater department performed “The Trial of Goldilocks,” and Mr. Quinn bought the rights to perform it; however, this year he didn’t want to do that, so he wrote the whole thing himself! “Honestly, just whenever a good idea hit me, I sort of jumped out and wrote it down and worked my way through different topics, and if I found something funny, I tried to adapt it to the way I would do it,” said Mr. Quinn. There is a lot more stuff that goes into the play than just writing the script. Memorizing lines, set design, costuming, blocking scenes, and more. So the whole cast has to work together to be able to make the play extraordinary!
So as you can see, the fall play is a great way to get involved with acting at Bowling Green Junior High! The whole cast is so excited to show everyone how hard they have been working. This new tradition at BGJHS is amazing, and you should come out and see this amazing cast in action!
