Who started Black History Month? Did you know Carter G. Woodson is credited with beginning Black History Month originally in 1970? Black History Month around the world: Black History Month is celebrated in many different ways. One way people celebrate it is by going to Black history museums, and some people go to historical places to learn more about the month and the people. Some schools celebrate it with events like Bowling Green Jr. High School; they had a step dance by WKU and had an African band come and play for the school. They also had the Black male scholars make posters for the school.

Martin Luther King Jr. was one of the people who helped out in the civil rights movement. He led the civil rights movement. One of the many things he is known for is the I Have a Dream speech. Martin changed so many lives. Not only did Black people live, but he also changed White and Mexican people, and he changed all of life with that speech. Martin broke the wall with the Birmingham Campaign, and Martin was the youngest person to ever win the Nobel Peace Prize. 

Rosa Parks sparked the Civil Rights Movement during the Montgomery Bus Boycott in the mid-1950s. She didn’t want to give up her seat to a white person, so they put her in jail for a few hours because Edgar Nixon Clifford and Virginia Durr bailed her out.  She was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Gold Medal. Rosa Parks died at the age of 92 of natural causes. The Montgomery bus boycott started on December 1, 1955, and ended in 1968.

King is the reason Black and White people can go to school together. You are not only responsible for what you say but also for what you do not say. Peace if possible, truth at all costs.
