These pandas go by the names Bao Li and Qing Bao. The three-year-old pandas, one male and one female, caught the hearts of people all around the world when they arrived at the National Zoo in Washington, DC. 7th grader Bethany DeJesus states, “These two pandas are adorable, and it would be a great visit.” Even though Bethany and a bunch of others have never visited, it still makes them happy at the sight of these pandas.
Bao Li and Qing Bao were gone for so long because the National Zoo’s contract of ten years with the Chinese authorities had finished. Their departure comes from intensifying relations with pandas between security and economic issues that could cause harm to the pandas. georgetown.edu states, The National Zoo returned its three giant pandas to China in advance of an expiring loan agreement between the U.S. and China. The departure comes amid intensifying relations between Washington and Beijing over security, economic, and humanitarian issues.” They have been doing this back and forth for years; now the loan is finally finished, causing the pandas to stay forever in the national zoo. People were filled with happiness and excitement at the return of these pandas.
Bao Li and Qing Bao making their unexpected return caused waves of happiness and excitement, especially to people who went to this zoo often. However, others who never visited were also happy for the pandas’ return. 8th grader Karter Tooley explains, “These pandas coming back have a good impact on the zoo because it gives people an opportunity to see them.” The return of Bao Li and Qing Bao had a great positive impact on everyone.
The pandas were taken back to China due to a contract of 10 years expiring. Finally, after fifteen years, three-year-old Qing Bao and Bao Li made their return to the National Zoo.
