BGJHS cheer has been very successful, staying in the top two for every competition throughout the year. Their hard work and dedication have made them unstoppable this season. The BGJHS cheer qualified for regionals, heading to state.
Regionals is the competition where you qualify for state, so there is a LOT of pressure on everyone. If the cheerleaders don’t win regionals, the state is completely out of the picture! 7th grade cheerleader Tk Dotson states, “Just being in the atmosphere of the competitiveness of the regionals is really fun.” Regionals is a great way to show off your team’s talent and ability.
State is one of the biggest wins you can achieve in cheer. Everything in your routine must be perfect and winning,” 8th grader Coco Roach states, “I think our routine is state-winning. I do think it is because it’s very sharp and very clean. The competition is built from the best in the whole state of Kentucky. Winning the state tournament is a HUGE achievement for the junior high. We wish our cheer team luck in the upcoming state tournament on Dec. 21st.
Competitions can be exciting but stressful at the same time. It’s fun to compete against new rivalries but can be nerve-wracking from the pressure to win. Our BGJHS cheer team has got nothing lower than 2nd place in every competition this year! 7th grader Tk Dotson says, “Competitions are really fun, and on the bus rides, we listen to music, and it’s really fun to get ready with your friends. Just being in the atmosphere of competitiveness is really great. Being with your teammates from school makes the cheer experience ten times better!
Mentally and physically preparing for the cheer season is an important way to make sure you do your best when the season comes around. Many girls on the cheer team do what’s best for their body and mind. Making sure your body is healthy and strong can impact how you perform on the mat. 7th grade student Turner Katherine Dotson says, “I prepare for the season by working on tumbling and focusing on memorizing the routines the best I can.” Also, 7th grader McKinley Wright explains, “I worked over the summer and I worked on my tumbling privately.”
Everyone is friends on the cheer team. To be a great team, everyone has to get along. At school, they make sure to greet each other in the hallway and hang out whenever it’s possible. Friends can always make the experience of a sports team or club way better. “My favorite part about cheering for the junior high is being with my teammates and my friends that I love,” states 8th grader Coco Roach. The cheer girls aren’t the only people who get along on the cheer team; the coaches also pitch in to make good relationships. The cheer team is almost like a big, happy family.
Our BGJHS cheer team is a big part of our purple spirit. They host dances and other fun activities for the whole school. Many students love to attend these fun-filled experiences. They always work so hard to make these dances as exciting as possible “I love how the cheer team always goes the extra mile to make sure everyone has fun,” States 7th grader Kira Camp. The girls enjoy hosting the dances just as much as people enjoy attending them. Kira Camp also includes, “I love hosting the dances because it’s really fun to set everything up with my teammates. I also like seeing other people enjoy what we do.
Team bonding is important to create a successful team. Making relationships stronger can make people want to work together, whether it’s on the mat or even at school. “We did team bonding at Jocelyn Sledge’s house, and we put paint on our hands to put on other people’s shirts,” explains 7th grader McKinley Wright. “We all hang out after school sometimes, and we hang out during 7th period.” Everyone is good friends on the cheer team, and they love to spend time together. If they’re not cheering at games or competitions, the team always finds a way to spend time together, even if it’s over the phone.
Our cheer team has been very successful throughout the years. Whether it’s finding a way to benefit our school or raising our purple spirit. They always go hand in hand during sports games, boosting players’ confidence. They can always find a friend in each other and do fun activities that build their relationships. You can always count on the BGJHS cheer team!!
