Many people overlook lacrosse or don’t put much interest in it, but lacrosse, known as the oldest sport in North America, is a very interesting sport! The BGJHS all-girl lacrosse team 2024 season is getting started.
Many people play sports for lots of different reasons! Some people are influenced by someone else to play the sport; player Myers Caudill stated, “I have a friend that is in high school that plays, and our parents are really close friends, and she said it was really fun and that I should try it.” But some people are influenced to play sports for a completely different reason. Ally Campbell stated, “It seemed like a very fun sport and a great outdoor activity.” Many different people have many different reasons to play the sport they love. If you play a sport, what influenced you to play?
“The hardest part about lacrosse is probably learning to catch because I’m not very good at that, and the easiest part is throwing.” explained player Sadie Fox. All players struggle and succeed in the sport they play, but it is important to keep trying even if you don’t have success the first time. Lacrosse isn’t just running down the field and scoring; it’s like soccer, hockey, and basketball all rolled into one. This makes lacrosse a lot more difficult than it looks; lots of dedication and hard work goes into games and practices for these girls.
Lacrosse isn’t only a fun sport to play; it also builds trust and friendships. “I get to hang out with a bunch of my friends that I don’t usually get to see,” said player Campbell. Friendships that start because of playing the same sport are unique because you get to share a hobby with someone you care about. Did you know that about 47% of friendships are made from playing the same sport as someone?
We have heard that lacrosse is harder than it looks, what influenced people to play, and how it has built friendships, but what about how lacrosse has had an impact on people’s lives? “Lacrosse has impacted my life by giving me something to do and look forward to after school,” stated player Fox. Sports give over half of students something to look forward to after the school day.
Lacrosse is an outstanding sport that takes lots of focus and dedication. Many people overlook the sport or don’t show much interest. Lacrosse has built friendships, gotten people in shape, given people an after-school activity they love, and many other great things.
