“No One Can Whistle A Symphony; It Takes An Orchestra to Play It”-H.E. Luccock
“The discipline of practice every day is essential. When I skip a day, I notice a difference in my playing. After two days, the critics notice, and after three days, so does the audience.”- Jascha Heifetz.
BGJHS strings had a Halloween concert on October 28, 2024, in the school auditorium
Every morning before class, Mr. Case holds morning practice so they can practice their pieces over and over, which was stated by Conner Haley, “Play the song over and over till you get good at it,” and also by Dong Chu, “Mr. Case makes us go to morning practice and practice our pieces,” which helped them a lot in their concert because if they didn’t practice, they wouldn’t have fixed their problems with their pieces.
Everyone’s easiest piece is different, and some don’t even think any are easy. Conner Haley stated that none of them were easy for him; they were all hard. Dong Chu stated, “The least hard piece was the “Crossing Pirates Cove.” Isabella Loza stated, “The least was Crossing Pirates Cove.” It looks like the easiest piece seems to be Crossing Pirates Cove.
Everyone has a different hardest piece; Conner Haley stated, “Mystical Towers was the hardest because there were too many notes and it was too fast.” Dong Chu stated, “The hardest piece we played was “Tales of Kojiki.” It was hard because I had to move my fingers quickly.”. Isabella Loza stated “Tales of Kojiki Was the Hardest” because she didn’t know how to play it well.
Favorite pieces can be based on the hardest or easiest song or on how much they enjoyed playing; it’s based on what you like the most, even if it is hard or easy. Conner Haley stated, “My favorite piece was Mystical Towers because it was easy.” Dong Chu stated, “My favorite piece is “Tales of Kojiki” because it sounds nice and it’s fun to play.” Isabella Loza did not have a favorite piece.
Mr. Case stated, “I require my students to practice 3 days a week because I think that’s a good amount of time for them to practice their instrument; I don’t require a certain amount of time like 40 hours a semester. Well, I think anytime you spend time on your own, you try to figure it out of the way your brain processes.”
Mr. Case stated, “For the Halloween concert, I picked music that was grade level for the kids and things they could accomplish if they worked hard on it.”
“I thought strings were going to be hard and boring, but when I kept playing, I learned how to play it better, and I started to love it, and now it’s my favorite class.”Dong Chu.
