“Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain silent.” Who in your life inspires your music taste and how has it made your music taste different? When you listen to music your favorite songs on your playlists sometimes come from the people we love in our lives. Someone you care about in your life can introduce you to new genres of music that you didn’t even know you liked.
“Music is therapy,” said Coach Hayes. Sharing your music taste with your loved ones while also spending time with them can be a great way to connect and bond closer with the people you love. Imagine a summer night riding bikes with someone you care about while listening to music. Memories like that can change your love for music or make a song have a deeper meaning to you.
If you are ever introduced to a new song, album, or artist, that can allow you to hear a whole bunch of new sounds or kinds of music. “There is music for every mood,” said Hayes. You can have different playlists based on what mood you’re in. Or music can set your mood. Sharing music taste with your loved ones can change how you view the differences in music people like to listen to.
People might encourage you to try new genres, songs, or artists. You might even end up going to concerts with people because you guys have the same music tastes or similar ones. The excitement of events like that can make you more interested in music. Connections can last forever because of music. “My dad and my sister influence my music taste,” said 8th grader Akeelah Wihtrow.
Connections are important in helping us find new music. You can discover new sounds, try different styles of music, and make memories you will never forget. These experiences can have big impacts on a person. So anytime someone recommends a song, album, artist, etc, listen to it you never know how it can change your music taste!
