Did you know that over half of the American population can’t swim? Coach Towe is trying to fix that problem by teaching a swim class. Coach Towe has heard the problem that half the population can’t swim, and he wants to fix that by teaching a swim class that goes to the high school during 6th period every weekday.
There are lots of things to like about swim class, and teaching it can be even more fun than participating in it. The PE coach and swim class teacher, Coach Towe, shares his favorite part about swim class. “My favorite part about swim class is teaching these students a skill that could last them a lifetime. It could potentially save their life. It could also lead them into an area they could not be in before learning how to swim, like a swimming pool.”
The students of the swim class may face many challenges in swimming. Johari Asumani shares the challenges that she faces during swim class. “I can’t swim, so trying to swim is scary for me. I wear a life jacket while swimming to help overcome these challenges.”. Johari tells us that even though she has a life jacket, she still fears deep water, yet she is still trying her best. Johari mentions that she still enjoys swimming and recommends it to everyone.
Learning how to swim comes with uncomfortable things to do, like swimming in deep waters. Elisa Hernandez shares what is scary about swimming in deep waters. “If you are learning how to swim, swimming in deep waters can be scary because you fear you might drown. Once you learn how to swim, it isn’t scary.”
