1 in 3 Americans Can’t Do Basic Household Tasks. To better understand how Americans fare when it comes to typical household tasks, we asked 1,000 people which chores they can do by themselves. But in our family consumer science class, we are being taught these things
Ms. Swiatek teaches FCS at the BGJHS so that students can understand FCS and what ways it could affect their lives later on in life.
Family consumer science class teaches students all the life skills we will use for the rest of our lives. Some of these life skills are budgeting, time management, and more This is why this class is so important because, as I stated before, 1 in 3 Americans can’t do a basic household task.
Some ways the family consumer science could help people in the future is by their food intake and what’s good and what’s not. 6th grader Maddox stated that we learn about what’s in the food, how many calories are in foods, what foods have fats in them, and what’s good to eat and not good to eat.
FCS is a class that assists students in principles related to food preparation.6th grader Dax Dew said, “In FCS, we are learning to read food labels.” Dew said, “It will affect us later on because it will help us be able to read the ingredients in something in case we are allergic to something, and it will be able to tell us how many calories are in something.”
Many students have a variety of reasons to sign up for FCS. 6th Grader Dax Dew said, “It’s fun to read food labels and have knowledge of what’s in food because you learn about the food that you eat.”
