Ready, Set, Go!

Have you ever exercised and found it difficult? There are many new cross-country runners at BGJHS. They are going to be running a lot harder than before because the competition is even more difficult. Now that’s hard!

The runners on the cross-country team have gotten a lot of exercise from running. For example, some of the people on the team could only run half a mile, but now they can run a whole mile. Also, some people plan to keep going with the sport because they are good at it. Shelby Write, a seventh-grade runner, said, “It’s fun, and I feel excellent after I do it.” Shelby is saying how she feels good after running because running can be rewarding, and she felt good about how she ran the amount that she did. The runners on the cross-country team have gotten a lot better, and some have even won races.

Winning cross-country races is very challenging but rewarding when you finish the race. Grant Harston, a 6th-grade cross-country runner, said, “Running is tiring.”. “The win is not always given to you; you have to work hard to win,” said the cross country coach, Matt Hamilton. For runners, sometimes just thinking about winning is a big motivation. Winning is not always easy; you have to compete against other people to win.

`Encouragement and effort are a big part of the cross-country team. For example, the team works very hard, running almost every day at either a practice or a race. Also, many people cheer on the sidelines while the team is running in a race. Mr. Hamilton, the cross country coach, said, “Knowing that I am out working, someone decided not to do anything.” When it comes to effort, Mr. Hamilton said he has run and coached for 30 years, loves running on trails, and is the head cross-country coach at BGJHS and BGHS. Every runner on the cross country team has encouragement and effort, which becomes very rewarding for a lot of things.

Ultimately, the cross-country team works very hard, with many ups and downs along the way. Even with the team’s winnings and rewardingness, their effort and the encouragement from everyone made it fun for them. Make sure next time you see or think about cross-country runners, that inspires you to go exercise.
