Elementary schoolers came to visit BGJHS for a tour. They are coming this week. They are coming because they get a full tour, so they won’t get lost on their first day at the school. Fifth graders visit BGJHS to get a tour of the school. They came on the 21st and 22nd
The 5th-grade students are coming to BGJHS. They go to school for a reason: to visit the school and see what it looks like whenever they’re in 6th grade. It also gives them an illustration so they can use that to help them on the first day of middle school. It makes them prepared, so they aren’t nervous on their first day. If they get the full tour of the school, they won’t have trouble finding their classes or going to the classroom they need to go to. The principal of BGJHS, Robert Lightning, talked about why they are visiting the school: “Next year, you know, I think that one of the most important things is it just gives them a sense of the building, the layout, the building. We found over the years that that eases a little bit of their anxiety on the first day of school. Many of them still won’t know exactly where they’re going, but they’ve at least been there before.”
There are important reasons why the 5th graders are coming to the junior high. It makes them feel less nervous; they can think about how middle school would be, and they learn about classes. They could meet their future teachers if they had some of them. Nix Crawford, the 6th grade counselor at BGJHS, said, “Well, they got to see a variety of things. They get our youth service center to present to them about different things, what they provided, and you know, where they go to get help. We also had our band present to them, and we also talked to them about some other extracurricular activities, clubs, and sports scenes that they can get involved in. And then again, they were just shown the building.”
The 5th graders were shown places like the related arts and musical arts classes and the cafeteria. The 6th grade counselor, Nix Crawford, states, “So they’ll get to see our whole building; they’ll get to see the auditorium, and in the auditorium we do a mini concert with our strings, our band, and our choirs. So they get to see what those musical programs look like. Then they get to walk around on tours of the building and see the cafeteria, the art room, the gym, and the different hallways. Hopefully, they will get to see some classes in action as they do that.” This explains what the 5th graders have or will be shown around the school.
This will help the 5th graders in many ways, such as easily finding their classes and their related arts classes. Visiting BGJHS provides them with knowledge about the layout of the school and some of their classmates, which will guide them and give them comfort when they arrive next year. It could also help them get to their classes without trouble or getting lost. The 6th grade counselor, Nix Crawford, states, “So when the students get to come visit Bowling Green Junior High, they get to see the map and the layout of our school and where their classes are. They kind of get to meet some of their teachers; they get to meet some of the classmates they might have, so they’re more comfortable and more familiar with the building before they get here.” This emphasizes how visiting will benefit the 5th graders.
Visiting the junior high school will prepare 5th graders for middle school. It helps them know how to get around and feel less nervous on the first day of school.
