Did you know that the Latina club was invented in 1887, MYSIS was invented in 1909, and the jazz band was invented in early 1917?! These groups are not as well-known but are just as important. At BGJHS, these groups meet during and after school.
The Latina Club tells us a little about their journey around the school this whole school year at BGJHS to show off their culture to us, so people can learn about them and their culture. The Latina Club starts up again, spreading the word of their culture. According to Mayvin Canales, “Latina Club is a class where all Hispanic females from all around the school come together and talk. We help with Hispanic Heritage Month, setting up stations and helping people get where they need to be.” This explains what the Latina club members participate in. Latina club members are also helping out around the school, but they are also really good at socializing. Nayeli Ramos says, We talk to each other, we do projects each week, and we do stations.” They work together to have a great year in that class. My Sis is a program for Black teen girls to script their path to success. Would you say your culture is important? If your kids don’t learn about their culture, they won’t know anything about it, so it’s special that there are clubs just for this. According to a study from https://www.nld.org/for-a-real-change, “MySiS is an academically engaging mentoring program designed for Black teen girls to script their path to success. The program focuses on advancing the writing and reading skills of teens.” Focus on how MySiS empowers Black teen girls through this club, showing its unique value in supporting their educational journey. Jazz band is where musical creativity meets teamwork, as students learn to blend the sounds into one big harmony. If you love music, wouldn’t you love to be in a jazz band? If people don’t join a jazz band, there are going to be very few people, and it won’t sound like one big harmony. According to a study from https://nextbop.com/what-instruments-are-used-in-jazz, “Jazz is a genre defined by its vibrant energy, rhythmic playfulness, and a spirit of improvisation. While jazz has a core group of instruments that form the foundation of its classic sound, what makes the genre truly unique is its openness to experimentation and the creative use of different instruments across a variety of jazz styles.” Through dedication and teamwork, jazz bands create magical moments for both the performers and listeners.
