Have you ever wondered how people act on social media?
On social media, unfortunately, there are people that act like someone they are not because they don’t want to show who they are online.
Some people that have social media act differently from how they act in real life. If someone posts something on social media, that person may not actually be them or may not act the same. They might be someone different behind the screen, or they could be a whole completely different person. When it comes to reasons people act like someone else online, 7th grader Naliah Bennet said, “They think that they will get more attention online than in person.”
Some people may do something called “catfishing.” Catfish means that somebody is being someone that isn’t them or someone that has a different identity when it comes to online things. When it comes to people acting differently online, 8th grader Ermack Ramos said, “Yes, because they think they could be someone else that they’re not, and that they should just be themselves.” They just want to fit in with people they text or talk with.
This shows that some people don’t act the same as in real life. People act way differently online. People should watch out for dangers online. 8th grader Sharon Escobedo said, “ I feel like teenagers are too young to have social media because some of the time you get into things that you don’t have to watch, and things are inappropriate for you to see .”
Sometimes teenagers want to fit in with other groups, and they just feel like they don’t belong in something, so they act differently.
