St. Patrick’s Day is when you go and have fun with your friends. It’s a day when you eat and drink a lot of green things. People like to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and probably go out with a lot of green on, making themselves look good. When many people wear green, it’s known that they are celebrating and honoring St. Patrick’s Day.

Saint Patrick’s Day is based on a man born in 387. It is celebrated to honor Saint Patrick because he introduced Christianity to the Irish people and suffered. But why do we celebrate it if we’re not Irish? As Uriel Munoz Giron said, “I would describe St. Patrick’s Day as a day to celebrate Saint Patrick and the tough times he went through.” Well, the reason we started celebrating this holiday was due to the Irish famine. A horrible Famine Made all the potatoes of the Irish go bad, and in case you didn’t know, potatoes were a big part of their diet; they would even bake them in bread. But after the famine, many would starve, meaning they had to evacuate. And a lot of them came to America. When they came, they also brought their culture and celebrations, and this caused North America to celebrate Irish culture.

You may be asking who Saint Patrick is. Saint Patrick, or Maewyn Succat, was a Roman-British missionary and bishop who was later sent to Ireland to spread Christianity by Pope Celestine the First. Saint Patrick was born in Britain in a Romanized family. When he was 16, raiders took him from the villa of his father and carried him into slavery. Saint Patrick spent six hopeless years as a slave herdsman. During that time, he started to have a strong relationship with his faith. Upon dreaming that the ship on which he was to escape was ready, he fled his enslaver and found passage to Britain, where he almost died of starvation and suffered a second brief captivity before he was reunited with his family. When Patrick received a letter with the title “The Voice of the Irish,” While reading this letter, he felt like he could hear Irish people asking him to come back to Ireland. He was so touched by this that he couldn’t even finish reading the letter. Even though he wanted to help, he wasn’t sure if he was good enough because he didn’t think his education was very strong. When he was about to get on the boat to go to Ireland, he was still worried about whether he could do a good job. Once in Ireland, however, his hesitations vanished. In all confidence in the Lord, he journeyed far and wide, baptizing and confirming with determined devotion to God.
