A New Year’s resolution is a tradition in which a person sets goals to achieve next year. It’s also a promise that you make to yourself to start doing something good or stop doing something bad on the first day of the year. The purpose of the New Year is to improve our lives and make the New Year a better one for ourselves and others.
A thing that many people do every year is watch the Times Square ball drop, which marks the start of a new year. People also make resolutions they hope to achieve later on, or they make special foods to celebrate. They also celebrate by drinking as a tradition. Most people celebrate by exchanging gifts, lighting fireworks, hosting parties, etc. 7th grader Keeleigh Houchens explains, “My New Year resolution is to be good and to get straight A’s on my report card.” “I’m going to stay motivated by being good in school.”
Did you know that about 30 percent of Americans make New Year’s resolutions, but fewer than 10 percent successfully keep them? Making resolutions is important because making resolutions helps you to be better for the new year. It’s also just an opportunity to get things right. It makes us self-aware and encourages us to think about what it is we want to accomplish and who we want to be. And, if done properly, they can create a roadmap for us to develop a more fulfilling life. New Year’s resolutions can be powerful if we choose wisely.
New Year’s is an important date that allows people to understand when a year starts or ends. Resolutions that people set help them start off their year fresh and hope that they feel more accomplished than their last ones. The new year is something to remember because not only does it mark the new year, it means that you are getting older and there are more years to come.
