Imagine walking down the hallway and you see someone drop their backpack. Everything flows out. Instead of walking past them, you decide to help them pick the mess up. Little acts of kindness can make someone’s bad day into a good day. This can also inspire other people to be kind. On International Kindness Day, November 13th, we celebrate little but powerful acts of kindness that can make our school a better place for students.
There are many reasons why being kind is important. “Being kind is important because you never know what someone is going through,” said 7th grader Kirbee Hamilton at BGJHS. Kindness is important to different people in different ways. Sadie Fox, a 7th grader here at BGJHS, feels that we need to be kind because if you’re not, it could make someone think that there is something wrong with them or that they are not enough.
There are so many things you can do to show kindness. Even the littlest acts of kindness can make anybody’s day better. “One time, whenever one of my family members passed away, one of my friends brought me Starbucks to my house and flowers, so that was very kind and helpful, states Sadie Fox. When you’re kind, it can have an impact on someone, whether you know it or not.
We can all admit that we feel better when someone is kind to us. Mrs. Caroline Graff, the 7th-grade counselor at BGJHS, says, “I think we all feel pretty similar when somebody’s kind to us. It makes us feel good on the inside and lets you know that somebody cares about you.” Everybody wants to feel like they matter, so if you see someone feeling down, show them that you care.
The next time you want to say something mean or bully someone, just think, Would you want someone to do that to you?
