What’s so great about YouTube nowadays?
Did you know? YouTube is the 6th largest app used in the US, according to SimilarWeb. You can imagine the heights it reached in its prime. Many YouTubers are globally known, such as. DanTDM, PewDiePie, etc. People throughout the internet and real life can also list a full set of them. YouTube has such a large staple in Gen Z and other generations. You can imagine how many views a singular video can get nowadays, during the early days of YouTube. One of the founders, Jawed Karim, a co-founder of YouTube, also hada viralr video. He was also known as the first-ever YouTube video. YouTube is also the second-visited application in the world behind Google Search. Dax Allen, the 8th grader at BGJHS, also exclaimed that YouTube’s scale of videos allows for higher quality and in-depth explanations in video.
The original idea for YouTube started as an online dating service with inspiration from Hot or Not. During the first days of YouTube, they asked attractive women on Craigslist to post videos on YouTube. With the ambition for it to work, the founders dropped the dating aspect and made it more open to any type of content. During the peak of YouTube, a majority of popular YouTube served like Markiplier, PewDiePie, etc. The app itself housed a ton of generations. With 77% of users being 13-15-36, with 73% being older generations.

YouTube & Its Growth + Impact on Generations.
Compared to any other video-sharing platform, YouTube has grown content creators looking forward to creating content for the youth. With popular ones being Sketch (ROBLOX), The Pals, Denisdaily, Alex (The Pals), etc. YouTubers gradually kept impacting the lives of many people. From tutorials to Let’s Play. Many YouTubers like DanTDM, PewDiePie, etc. had a great impact on other games like Minecraft. Some could argue its modest design made Minecraft popular; streaming and gaming made Minecraft the hype alongside bigshots like Technoblade.
Even today, people commonly talk about their favorite YouTubers, some being Corykenshin, Dude Perfect, MrBeast, The Pals, Flamingo, Jacksepticeye, and many more. YouTube has grown and raised an entire generation. Even today, YouTube is widely known throughout the world. Ask anyone or even send a logo of YouTube, and they’ll immediately recognize the app.

As of 2024. YouTube averages 2.5 million interactions monthly. With paid sub-services like YouTube Music, YouTube Premium, etc. YouTube dominated the playing field until other video-sharing platforms like Twitch TV, etc. came into existence. You could argue whether or not Twitch is better than YouTube. YouTube has come a long way. From being an absolute nobody in its early days to being used every day globally. YouTube has changed the internet forever. Some could argue that other apps like Instagram or Twitter started this unanimous connection among people throughout the world. YouTube has revolutionized how people view video-sharing services. It also grew a large community of people and especially favored content creators.
YouTube does have a growing problem of content farms, unjust influencers, and other flaws in content creation. Many controversies, such as MrBeast’s investigation, Not Safe for Work Children content farms, botted accounts, etc. YouTube has gone to initiatives to crack down on, but for many people, these accounts that consistently break YouTube’s guidelines annoy them too. YouTube does have an apparent rulebook known as Content Creator Responsibility. From past year-oldweets, YouTube can cut revenue from content creators temporarily. But by not punishing those rightly. Some raised the question if YouTube is even pushing favoritism. For many years, YouTube had several controversies.
