The crowd erupted with cheers and helmets clanged loudly as back-to-back touchdowns were made in the first half.
There are many things coaches worry about when it comes to district games. Coach Hayes shared, ”Being able to play football itself is fun, but it’s the added pressure of the playoffs, and if you don’t win, your season is over, and I’m glad that we’re at home.” Hayes explained his worries about the upcoming district game against Christian County. “We’re getting ready to play them in the playoffs. We’ve already played them this season and we beat them 33 to 14, but their Quarterback is back this past weekend and they upset the number one seed, so it’s going to be a tough game for us Thursday.”
Players have to mentally prepare for a big district game or the playoffs. 8th-grade football player Anthony Davis shares, “ I watch the other team and study what the defense does.”7th-grade football player, Montana Reynolds, explained what he does to mentally prepare” I study the other team and see what kind of defense they have and see where most of the holes are when I run the ball.”
Coaches have to physically prepare and so do players. So, how do they do it? Both Coach Hayes and 7th-grade football player Montana Reynolds share with us how they physically prepare. “Our team has to have good practice for us to win because we have a lot to work on,” said Coach Hayes. Reynolds explained, “I try to run hard in practice and do my hardest to play as best as I can.”
There are many worries that coaches and players have but they also have to prepare for state and this is what we went over to know how they do it all. Coach Hayes says, “We look at film and see what we have to do better and see if we need to condition more.”
