Millions of teenagers across the country are suffering from serious sleep deprivation and it’s taking a major toll on their health, grades, and overall well-being. Sleeping is important because it affects your day, The students at BGJHS need to be in a good mindset at school.
Teenagers have many different bedtimes. Those bedtimes can make a big difference in how the following day goes. 8th grade student Karter Tooley said, “I usually go to sleep at 10:00, and that allows me to get seven hours of sleep. On the weekends, I go to bed a lot earlier.” Tooley also shared that when she gets enough sleep, “ I will be in a better mood than going to sleep late and being in a bad mood.”
When teenagers don’t get enough sleep, the teachers can tell very easily. 7th-grade science teacher. Amanda Walden said, “Sleep is a very important stage of life, and students should try to prioritize sleep better.” Mrs. Walden explained, “Students should not be on their phones late at night. It cuts into their time to sleep. The light prevents your body from producing melatonin that helps you fall asleep.”
Sleep is important not only for kids and teenagers but also for adults. Getting enough sleep can impact a kid’s or adult’s day. According to 6th-grade counselor Nix Crawford, “Sleep is important not only for kids but also adults. To be able to grow, continue to learn, and be healthy, you have to get enough sleep. Because your body is an adolescent, it’s a critical stage of your life. Your body’s changing and you’re maturing, and getting enough sleep will help you continue to grow, be healthy, and learn.” This article shows that sleep is essential for our mental health and physical well-being to be able to grow positively.
