Did you know that 55% of America’s population are gardeners?
The new gardening club at BGJHS, the Purple Picklers, is now allowing all students who want to join but will be starting the garden in the spring. This club will teach students how to garden, roast, and preserve a variety of vegetables.
The new upcoming club. The Purple Picklers will be about: “Teaching the kids and families to roast vegetables and preserve them. So they can go home and do this on their own in their own homes,” said the gardening club teacher, Jennifer Glass.
The Purple Picklers Club has been given a grant of $3000 from Whole Foods, which has greatly benefited the club because, in Mrs. Glass’ words, “Previously we had no money to start this project, so this is going to let us be able to afford the hardware, the wood to build the raised beds, the tools that were going to need the soil, the plants, etc., like the canning supplies that we would not have been able to afford without that.”
There are many things to look forward to after joining the Purple Picklers, like, “just getting our vegetables to grow,” stated 6th grader Chandler Glass, which has her excited for the Purple Picklers.
So come out to the Purple Picklers, where you don’t just grow vegetables, but learn to roast and preserve vegetables. So they can go home and do this on their own in their own homes.
