Things like jorts, leopard print, jean skirts, etc. are all things students wear here at our school that are influenced by social media platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and more. Fashion is a big thing here at BGJHS. Social media platforms influence what students wear here at our school.
Apps like Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, YouTube, and more have heavy influences on trends today. For example, scrolling on TikTok and seeing trending fashion will impact many people. Seeing people post on Snapchat stories will spread trends quickly. This leads to other people finding out about things they didn’t know before. “TikTok is kind of the most used app, and people get influenced easily from it,” said 8th grader Melanie Guillen Serrano.
Social media helps students show who they are through their clothes. They can try different styles and see what they like best. When they share their style online, friends’ positive comments make them feel good about themselves. This helps students feel brave enough to wear what they want at school, even if it’s different. As a result, schools become more accepting places with many unique styles. 8th grader Coco Roach shared, “Definitely Pinterest because it has inspiring outfits that people get influenced by.”
Social media is like fashion show for students. “I use TikTok, Snapchat, and Instagram, and they help my outfits because I see people wearing something online and I think it’s cute, so I buy it,” said 7th grader Emery Hancock. When a popular person online wears something cool, everyone wants to wear it too! This is how fashion trends spread quickly among students. Since everyone is seeing the same styles online, they want to try them out, which makes them feel like they belong to a group. It’s like being part of a club where everyone dresses similarly. Even though trends change fast, it’s a fun way for students to connect through clothes.
Social media has changed how things work at school, especially when it comes to fashion and how students talk to each other. It shows how creative and unique students are, but it also helps them feel like they belong to a group. Social media is a big part of school life today, and it will continue to shape how students learn and express themselves in the future.
