Art is more than just paint and canvas; it’s a form of communication. Our art teacher is a very talented person who empowers students to explore their emotions through art. This unique opportunity aims to cultivate self-expression and build confidence in young artists.
In the art class at BGJHS, students work on art projects in class like painting and drawing. They learned this only because of one person, and the person is the beloved art teacher, Mrs. Brown. She has taught for three years.
Mrs. Brown has been teaching art at the junior high school for two years. Ms. Brown said, ”I have a passion for art and love to teach it.” Mrs. Brown’s high school art teacher Mr. Sinten influenced her because he was her favorite teacher ever, and when she decided she wanted to teach, she thought of art since it was fun and easy for her.
Mrs. Brown had to work hard to get where she wanted to be. First, you would have to go to a university. She went to the University of Kentucky. Then, you would have to get an undergraduate degree. You have to major in something. She majored in art education. This is where you take classes for three years about all the different things about art and while you’re doing that, you take psychology classes about how to teach kids and the life stages of kids. Once done, you would start to go to schools and prepare for 8 weeks in a high school, 8 weeks in elementary, and 8 weeks in a middle school so that you can study the way the teacher teaches.
Some kids look up to her, and even some people want to follow in her footsteps. Lillian Toomey said that she has always wanted to teach kindergarten and she loves art. Mrs. Brown has helped her with better designs and some that she is not used to and harder for her, but now she can easily draw and pursue her career as an art teacher.
If you think that you can sign up to be a teacher, you’re wrong; you have to go to school and much more so you can be taught how to teach.
